There has been a stark contrast between Newcastle United’s transfer activity in defence and going forward. The Magpies have managed to get deals for Sven Botman and Matt Targett over the line, while also adding Nick Pope between the posts. On the other hand, they have been met with one disappointment after another when looking for strikers and wingers.

It had been believed that Newcastle United had placed Moussa Diaby of Bayer Leverkusen as their number one target this summer after his brilliant season in the Bundesliga. But rumours have suggested that the Magpies have taken a step back due to the high transfer fee that they would need to shell out to sign the Frenchman.

Thus, they would be expected to look towards other wingers now and one name that has done the rounds of the Newcastle United rumour mill for a while is that of Jack Harrison.

The Magpies will have been encouraged by Jesse Marsch’s comments about Harrison. While the winger remains a big part of their plans, the possibility of an exit was not completely ruled out. As reported by Leeds Live, the Leeds United manager said:

"“Of course there’s always possibilities that big transfer offers come in and clubs then have to decide how it fits and what are the best options moving forward. But, for me, Jack Harrison is a big part of our plans moving forward and we’re counting on him this season, for sure.”"

Newcastle United have been offered some hope in their quest to sign Harrison from Leeds United

The most impressive thing about Harrison’s 2021/22 season is the fact that he managed to make an impact even when Leeds United were struggling badly and barely managed to avoid relegation.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Harrison scored 10 goals and provided a couple of assists in 38 appearances across all competitions for Leeds United last season.

He is also 25 years of age and not even in his prime yet. Thus, if Newcastle United are able to sign Harrison it would be a major coup for them but it is believed that Leeds United would look for a transfer fee of more than £35 million to part ways with him this summer.
