Newcastle United need to pay £40 million fee for striker
Newcastle United have been frustrated in their search for a striker this summer. Hugo Ekitike had once looked on the verge of a move to St James’ Park but has ended up joining PSG instead. They were also linked with a move for Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak but that ended up nowhere and West Ham United seem to be the heavy favourites to sign Armando Broja from Chelsea right now.
Thus, Newcastle United will have to reassess their situation once again and recently, they have been linked with a move for Brentford’s Ivan Toney. The striker was at St James’ Park in the past but things did not work out for him back then. He has taken his game to the next level since then though and could be a very good signing.
Brentford are said to have no intention of parting ways with Toney this summer after he enjoyed a very good season in the Premier League last time around and was one of the key players for the Bees, as they managed to stay up in the top flight. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 14 goals and provided 6 assists in 37 appearances for the club across all competitions.
As reported by i, there have been no offers for Toney yet and it would take transfer offers close to the £40 million mark for Brentford to reconsider their position.
Could Newcastle United end up bringing back Toney this summer?
It remains to be seen how things play out over the coming weeks and months. The longer this transfer saga for a striker drags on, the more difficult it will get for Newcastle United.
If they are able to sign someone like Toney, it would be a major coup on the part of the Magpies but it is safe to say that it will be very difficult to get over the line.
Newcastle United are in need of a new striker though, having seen both Callum Wilson and Chris Wood struggle in front of goal last season.
