Newcastle United have been frustrated in their search for a winger this summer. It was believed that the club had made Moussa Diaby of Bayer Leverkusen their top target of the window, but recent rumours have suggested that they have had to drop their interest in the French international as a result of the high transfer fee involved and wage demands as well.

On the other hand, the club have also been linked with players like Callum Hudson-Odoi, Thorgan Hazard, Jack Harrison and more in recent times, and it remains to be seen who they end up signing on the wings.

It appears that the Magpies have a long-term option in their sights as well though in the form of Alan Virginius of Sochaux. The 19-year-old is coming off of a promising campaign in Ligue 2.

As reported by Le10Sport, the Magpies are set to make an offer between €5 million and €10 million for Virginius.

It is clear that Virginius has shown a lot of potential in his performances for Sochaux at the Ligue 2 level and Newcastle United are not the only club to be linked with the teenager in recent times. Interestingly, Bayer Leverkusen are also in the race for the French youth international’s signature.

Virginius seems to be a brilliant prospect but at the same time, one would not expect him to come in and become an immediate contributor for Newcastle United’s senior time. Thus, even if the Magpies succeed in signing the winger, he seems like a long-term prospect instead of a quick fix to their problems up top.

As a result, one would except Newcastle United to make a move for another winger, no matter what ends up happening in their chase to sign Virginius from Sochaux.
