Newcastle United have done a great job with their defence but need to strengthen in other areas of the pitch as well. The Magpies could do with another option in the middle of the park this summer, with the club having aspirations to challenge the traditional Big Six for one of the European qualification spots this time around, after finishing 11th in the 2021/22 Premier League season.

In recent times, Newcastle United have not been linked with a lot of midfielders, with the most of the focus appearing to be on strikers and wingers right now.

There are a few players who they should definitely keep their eyes on though and one of them is Billy Gilmour. The Scottish international is currently with Chelsea but spent the previous season on loan at Norwich City.

Gilmour has actually been quite impressive in a number of games that he has played at the senior level for Chelsea and it is a major surprise that he has not actually received more chances to represent the Blues. And it is very possible that he could be on his way out this summer in search of playing time.

Newcastle United should keep an eye on exciting Chelsea midfielder

Gilmour has not received enough chances at the senior level for Chelsea but then, he is not the first one to be dealing with that issue. In fact, some of the top players in the world today like Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne failed to make it Stamford Bridge early on in their careers.

Thus, Newcastle United should not shy away from making a move for a player like Gilmour, who is an unquestionable talent.

He has impressed while representing the Scottish national team as well and at 21 years of age, one would expect him to only get better from here.

Thus, if Chelsea decided to let Gilmour go this summer, Newcastle United should make sure that they are in the line to sign him.
