Newcastle United’s search for a striker appears to be becoming a frustrating one for the Magpies, as they have failed to get their targets till now. It had looked like a move for Hugo Ekitike of Stade Reims was on the verge of happening not too long ago. But that has not materialised and instead, the French youngster seems to be headed for PSG.

On the other hand, the Magpies were heavily linked with Alexander Isak of Real Sociedad recently as well. The Swede has been one of the most highly rated young strikers in Europe for a long time. But rumours have suggested that Newcastle United have dropped their interest in him after it emerged that his current club were looking for his entire release clause to part ways with him.

The situation is far from ideal for the Magpies to say the least. They do need a consistent goal scorer though, after having seen both Callum Wilson and Chris Wood struggle to find the back of the net last season.

And as reported by The Northern Echo, Newcastle United are weighing up a move for Atalanta’s Duvan Zapata. Not too long ago, the 31-year-old was rated at a transfer fee around £35 million but Italian media have suggested that his club would be willing to drop their asking price significantly.

Although the second half of his previous campaign was not the most impressive, Zapata is a player who has appeared to have gotten better with age overall.

He has played some of the best football of his career in recent years and is a huge reason behind Atalanta’s successes in recent seasons.

Thus, despite being 31 years of age, Zapata could prove to be a solid signing for Newcastle United. It remains to be seen if the Magpies are able to agree a deal or not.
