It would be an understatement to say that Newcastle United have been busy during the course of the ongoing summer transfer window. The club were always expected to make a splash following their change of ownership, and they have done exactly that by bringing in Sven Botman from Lille, Nick Pope from Burnley and turning Matt Targett’s loan deal from Aston Villa permanent.

The Magpies are not expected to stop there though, as they must be looking to improve on their 11th place finish in the Premier League and potentially challenge for European qualification spots this time around.

While their defence looks very strong at the moment, the same cannot be said about their options going forward, as the club did struggle to find the back of the net consistently last season. As a result, Newcastle United appear to be looking to sign a striker as well as a winger.

But as reported by The Telegraph, Newcastle United have abandoned Alexander Isak and Moussa Diaby moves after transfer fees and wage demands proved out of their reach.

Newcastle United have abandoned moves for two stars due to high transfer fees and wage demands

It has been rumoured for a while that Diaby was Newcastle United’s number one target on the wings. But Bayer Leverkusen are believed to be looking for a transfer fee around £60 million for their star player.

On the other hand, Isak has been one of the most highly rated young strikers in all of Europe for a while and could have proven to be a major coup for the Magpies. But it appears that Real Sociedad might not be willing to part ways with him unless a club triggers the Swedish international’s release clause, which is believed to be set at around £76 million.

The situation is far from ideal for the Magpies as it looks like they are back to the drawing board.
