Newcastle United might still have a few problems in their squad but their defence definitely is not one of them anymore. The club had brought in Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn in January and now, they have signed Sven Botman and Matt Targett on permanent deals this summer. As a result, their backline has to be considered one of the strongest areas of the team.

But at the same time, if the right opportunity presents itself, Newcastle United should not shy away from making another addition there and it looks like Chelsea could end up handing them the perfect chance this summer.

Levi Colwill is the most highly-rated youngster at Chelsea right now, but rumours have emerged that he could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer. The club are closing in on moves for Kalidou Koulibaly and Nathan Ake, and are believed to have Presnel Kimpembe on their radar as well.

Several Premier League clubs are being linked with Colwill already and Newcastle United should throw their hat in the ring as well, if the chance to sign the teenager becomes available this summer.

Colwill might be just 19 years of age but he has already made an impression at the senior level. He spent the previous season on loan at Huddersfield Town and he was one of the best defenders in the Championship.

Chelsea have produced some top class defenders in recent years. They have Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah at the club. But one has to look at the players they have let go of as well. That list includes names like Fikayo Tomori, Marc Guehi, Tariq Lamptey and Tino Livramento.

Many believe that Colwill can be as good as them if not better and as a result, if his signature becomes available this summer, Newcastle United should do their best to bring him to St James’ Park.
