Newcastle United have already strengthened significantly when it comes to their defence, since the arrival of Eddie Howe as manager. In January, they signed Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid and Dan Burn from Brighton & Hove Albion. Then this summer, they made Matt Targett’s loan move from Aston Villa permanent while also signing Sven Botman from Lille.

Thus, it is safe to say that their backline is quite strong at the moment but the Magpies continue to be linked with defenders.

The latest name to be linked with a potential move to St James’ Park is that of Japhet Tanganga, who has struggled for playing time at Tottenham Hotspur and could be on the way out this summer.

As reported by TUTTOmercatoWEB (via The Boot Room), Newcastle United want to sign Tanganga from Tottenham Hotspur on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy. AC Milan have also been linked with the defender in recent times.

Would signing the Tottenham Hotspur centre-back be the right move for Newcastle United?

Tanganga has always been very highly regarded at Tottenham Hotspur. But he has never quite been able to find his footing in the senior team.

Now 23 years of age and chances of getting regular minutes next season looking slim, it might be the right time for Tanganga to seal a move away from Tottenham Hotspur and there seems to be quite a bit of interest in his signature as well.

Newcastle United’s name is being linked with the Tottenham Hotspur centre-back as well, but would it be the right move on the part of the Magpies?

Defence had been a major weakness for Newcastle United in the first half of the previous campaign but now, it has to be considered as one of their biggest strengths. Thus, at this point of time, the Magpies might not need another centre-back and should probably focus on other areas of the squad.
