Newcastle United’s search for a striker has dragged on for much longer than anybody could have expected. The club are in need of adding another forward to their frontline, after having seen Chris Wood and Callum Wilson struggle to find the back of the net in the previous campaign. Till now, the Magpies have not been successful though.

The club were believed to be closing in on a move for Hugo Ekitike but that deal seems to have collapsed, and recent rumours have suggested that Paris Saint-Germain are set to win the race for the Frenchman’s signatue.

This is a blow for Newcastle United and with the season approaching fast, they cannot wait too much longer before making a move for a striker. And it looks like the club might even be ready to shatter their transfer record.

As reported by The Telegraph, Newcastle United are weighing up a record transfer bid for Alexander Isak.

Newcastle United are considering making a record bid for the striker

Isak has long been considered as one of the most highly rated young strikers in all of Europe. And even though it feels like he has been around for a long time, the Swede is actually still just 22 years of age.

He is currently playing for Real Sociedad in La Liga and is coming off of a very difficult campaign, where he struggled to score consistently.

Isak has all the attributes to be one of the best strikers in all of Europe in the future though and as a result, it does not feel like his inconsistent form has had a negative effect on clubs looking to sign him.

Isak has been linked with several top Premier League clubs over the years. Now, it remains to be seen if Newcastle United do decide to make a move for him or not. If they are able to sign the Swedish international, it would be a statement signing on the part of the Magpies for sure.
