Newcastle United must already be really happy with how their summer transfer window has gone, having from in Matt Targett from Aston Villa, Nick Pope from Burnley and Sven Botman from Lille, all on permanent deals. Those have the potential to be terrific signings for the Magpies and could end up strengthening their squad significantly going back. The club still need to make additions going forward though.

One area that needs reinforcements is on the wings. The club are believed to have placed Moussa Diaby as their top target there but have also been linked with players like Thorgan Hazard, Callum Hudson-Odoi and a few others.

Now, it appears that they have Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio in their sights as well, with the Spaniard potentially on his way out of Santiago Bernabeu this summer, after struggling to establish himself as a start for Los Blancos.

As reported by AS (via Sport Witness), Newcastle United want Asensio to be the cornerstone of their new project. The Magpies are believed to be the club pushing the most to sign him from Real Madrid.

While breaking through into the senior team, it had looked like Asensio was destined to be one of the top stars at Real Madrid and he did show some incredible potential during those early appearances for the club as well.

But as the years have rolled on, his big breakthrough at Real Madrid has never come and while h continues to remain an important part of the squad, he has never managed to become a starter for the Spanish giants.

As a result, he could be on his way out of Real Madrid and this could be an incredible opportunity for Newcastle United to make a move.

But the big questions are whether Newcastle United would be able to agree a deal with Real Madrid and whether Asensio would want to join the Magpies.
