Newcastle United are expected to strengthen in several areas over the course of the summer and have made an impressive start to the transfer window as well. Till now, the Magpies have brought in Sven Botman from Lille, Matt Targett from Aston Villa and Nick Pope from Burnley. Thus, defensively, the club should be solid next season, having already signed Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn in January.

While most of the recent rumours have revolved around a new striker, another area that the club might need to strengthen in this summer is on the wings.

The club have been linked with Watford’s Ismaila Sarr since January and with the Hornets getting relegated from the Premier League last season, the Senegalese winger’s exit looks inevitable this summer.

As reported by Newcastle World, Sarr is among four players who have not joined Watford for their pre-season training camp in Austria. Also, it must be pointed out that while Newcastle United have been linked with the Senegal international for a long time, they have not made a move yet and other targets are believed to be under consideration.

Sarr was one of the most highly-rated players in the Premier League, who was not playing for one of the traditional big six. In fact, he was linked with a move to Liverpool not too long ago.

One of the key reasons that Watford struggled last season might have been the fact that Sarr did not play much.

It is not only with his club that Sarr has impressed though. In fact, he won the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal as well. Thus, signing someone of his quality would be considered as a major coup for several clubs around the Premier League, including Newcastle United.

It might be difficult to pull of though as there have been suggestions that Watford could be looking for a transfer fee around £35 million to let Sarr go.
