Newcastle United were expected to make a splash this summer in the transfer window and one could argue that the club have already done that. They have strengthened their squad significantly by signing Nick Pope, Matt Targett and Sven Botman on permanent deals. All of them could end up playing key roles in Eddie Howe’s first-team next season.

But at the same time, the Magpies are not expected to stop there, and they have not really made a statement signing this summer, which the club were expected to do.

They have one huge potential move in their sights though in the form of Moussa Diaby, who was absolutely sensational for Bayer Leverkusen last season and one of the best players in the entire Bundesliga. And it appears that Newcastle United might be open to the prospect of breaking their club record in order to bring the Frenchman to St James’ Park.

As reported by 90min, Newcastle United are gearing up to break their transfer record in order to sign French winger Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen.

If Newcastle United are able to sign someone with the quality of Diaby, it would be a sensational coup on their part. Even though, he might be just 22 years of age, the Frenchman has been one of the best players in the Bundesliga for some time now.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Diaby scored 17 goals and provided 14 assists in 42 appearances last season.

Thus, it is safe to say that Diaby is an incredible talent and could take the Premier League by storm. Now it remains to be seen if Newcastle United are actually able to sign him. There have been rumours that Bayer Leverkusen would look for a transfer fee around £60 million to let him go.
