Newcastle United have been linked with some top players in recent times with the club now having the ability to pull off moves, following the change in ownership, that they simply could not in the past. And one of the biggest names that they have have linked with in recent times is Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

Newcastle United are indeed in need of a striker right now, with neither Chris Wood nor Callum Wilson being able to find the back of the net on a consistent basis last season.

Thus, someone like Osimhen would be an exceptional signing for the club, as the Nigerian strikers has been linked with some of the biggest teams in Europe in recent times and is believed to be rated at a transfer fee around €100 million.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has given a brutally honest verdict on the rumours linking Newcastle United with Osimhen though and does not believe that the Magpies could come close to him right now. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, he said:

"“I’m sure he’s been on their radar for most of the summer, it’s just the issue probably is the price tag that’s on his head from Napoli.“Napoli are demanding big, big money for him, so even with Newcastle’s riches, I don’t think they could get near that transfer fee for him right now. It’s probably £80 million-plus for the Nigerian International.”"

Osimhen is one of the top young strikers in all of Europe right now. He has been brilliant for Napoli and was one of the biggest reasons why they were in the running for the Serie A title till end of the campaign, even though AC Milan ended up winning it.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 18 goals and provided 6 assists last season in 32 appearances for Napoli. In the process, he averaged a goal contribution less than every 100 minutes.

Also, he is just 23 years of age and would be expected to get much better moving forward. Thus, it is not hard to see why Napoli would want to get a significant transfer fee to part ways with him. And at this stage, it is hard to see Newcastle United being able to sign Osimhen.
