Newcastle United are very much in need of a new striker. The likes of Callum Wilson and Chris Wood were not able to prove themselves as consistent goalscorers last season and the Magpies will definitely be needing one next season if they are to have any hope of challenging the traditional big six for the European spots. Eddie Howe’s side finished 11th last season.

It had looked like a move for Hugo Ekitike was on the verge of happening and the Stade Reims striker could have been a solid signing, after his brilliant breakout campaign, which has been compared to Karim Benzema’s at Lyon more than a decade ago.

But while that transfer has dragged on, there are serious doubts over it happening now and instead, the Magpies are being linked with other players, with one of them being Armando Broja of Chelsea.

As reported by Sky Sports, Newcastle United are interested in Broja this summer and have discussed him as a potential loan signing. Chelsea are looking to assess him in pre-season though before deciding his future.

Newcastle United linked with loan move for Chelsea striker

Broja spent the previous season out on loan at Southampton and he was quite impressive for the most part. While he might not have scored a lot of goals, he showed that he had a lot of attributes to be a major success in the Premier League in the future.

Chelsea do not want to let him go before Thomas Tuchel has assessed him in pre-season, but even then, it feels unlikely that he would get regular first-team minutes next season. Thus, a loan move might suit all parties.

Newcastle United are not the only club who have been linked with the highly rated Broja though as the likes of West Ham United, Napoli, Leicester City and Ajax have also been touted as potential destinations for the striker.
