Newcastle United could break club transfer record for winger
A new winger could be near the top of Newcastle United’s wish list this summer. While the club have been linked with the likes of Borussia Dortmund’s Thorgan Hazard and Leeds United’s Raphinha in recent weeks, most rumours have suggested that their number one target in the position is Moussa Diaby of Bayer Leverkusen.
It is not hard to see why as Diaby has been an absolute superstar for Bayer Leverkusen and one of the best players in the Bundesliga in recent times.
The former Paris Saint-Germain star has shown steady progress throughout his time at Bayer Leverkusen. And according to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 17 goals and provided 14 assists in 42 appearances last season across all competitions.
Diaby impressed not only in the Bundesliga but also in Europe, and someone like him would be a tremendous signing for Newcastle United. The Magpies might need to break their transfer record to sign him though. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Ben Jacobs said about the situation:
"“As I understand it, Leverkusen will only want a fee in the £40million or £45million region, not the £60million mark. But the add-ons are still going to take that deal to £60million and, as other suitors come in, Leverkusen may play hardball.“Newcastle are seriously considering that move and the player has certainly intimated that he would be open to talking further to them.”"
Newcastle United might need to break club transfer record to sign winger this summer
On the back of his incredible performances for Bayer Leverkusen last season, it should come as no surprise that Diaby is a man in demand this summer.
He can prove to be a statement signing on the part of Newcastle United if they are indeed able to bring him to the club. That is easier said than done though as it would take for them to break the club transfer record, which will be even more difficult considering that the Magpies have already signed Sven Botman, Matt Targett and Nick Pope this summer, and also need a strikers as well.
It must be pointed out though that a club record move for Diaby might very well be worth it. He is just 22 years of age and would be expected to get even better although he is already a great player.
