Newcastle United must be happy with the transfer business that they have done till now this summer. The club have signed Matt Targett on a permanent basis from Aston Villa, after his impressed on a half-season loan in the second half of the previous campaign. The Magpies have also completed moves for Nick Pope, after Burnley got relegated from the Premier League, and Sven Botman from Lille, after a long and hard chase for his signature.

Newcastle United are not expected to stop there though and have been linked with a wide number of players in recent times. One of them was Corentin Tolisso.

The French midfielder had struggled at Bayern Munich in recent times but that did not stop some of the biggest sides in the Premier League being linked with him, including Newcastle United. But after five seasons with the Bundesliga champions, the Frenchman has completed a return to Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyon.

Lyon tweeted out the news yesterday and Tolisso has signed a deal till the summer of 2027 witht the French club:

Newcastle United have missed out on chance to sign Tolisso

Someone like Tolisso could have proven to be an excellent signing for Newcastle United but now, that is off the table.

Tolisso was one of the most highly rated young midfielders in all of Europe not too long ago but saw his development stall to a large extent during his time at Bayern Munich. He is still just 27 years of age though and has plenty of time to bounce back, and would surely be looking to do that, now that he is back at Lyon.

On the other hand, one would expect Newcastle United to have other targets in their sights as well, as they look to shake up the landscape of the Premier League.
