Newcastle United have been busy this summer to say the least. They have signed Matt Targett from Aston Villa on a permanent basis after he impressed while on loan in the second half of last season. The Magpies have also signed Nick Pope from Burnley, who got relegated from the Premier League, and Sven Botman from Lille after a long and difficult chase.

One area that they have not been able to strengthen till now though is up front. The club do need to bring in a striker though, as both Callum Wilson and Chris Wood struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis last season.

The club will need a consistent goalscorer though, if they are to challenge the traditional big six for European qualification spots next season. It had looked like the Magpies were on the verge of signing Hugo Ekitike from Stade Reims but that transfer has dragged on for much longer than anticipated and now, there are major doubts over whether it will happen or not.

Another player that the club have been on-and-off though is Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen. If the Magpies are able to sign someone like Osimhen, it would represent an incredible coup on the part of the club and would be a statement of intent on the part of the Magpies. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, journalist Pete O’Rourke said:

"“Dream signing. It would be a real statement signing. We’re still really to see a huge marquee signing for Newcastle since the change of ownership, obviously did some good business in January and doing some good deals this summer as well.“But someone like a Victor Osimhen would be a marquee signing because he’s probably among the top strikers in Europe right now with a host of clubs chasing his signature.”"

Can Newcastle United pull off dream signing this summer?

Osimhen is one of the top strikers in Europe right now and has been linked with several giants alresdy.

He was one of the key reasons behind Napoli staying in the Scudetto race till the end of last season, even though AC Milan ended up topping Serie A.

Thus, someone like Osimhen would be a tremendous signing for Newcastle United but at this point of time, it does not look extremely likely. Never say never in football though.
