A new striker has to be near the top of Newcastle United’s wish list this summer. Neither Callum Wilson nor Chris Wood were able to particularly impress last season. The Magpies still ended up finishing in 11th in the Premier League but if they are to take the next step forward, they will need a player who can find the back of the net on a consistent basis.

For a long time, it had looked like Hugo Ekitike was set to be the striker that the club were going to sign this summer. The Frenchman had enjoyed a brilliant breakout season with Stade Reims and many had even compared his rise to that of Karim Benzema at Lyon.

But as that transfer saga has dragged on, it looks like the move might not end up happening after all, and as a result, Newcastle United must have their eyes on other strikers as potential targets as well.

One player that they have been linked with recently is Umar Sadiq of Almeria, who has been in stunning form in the Spanish second division lately. As a result, the side have managed to win promotion and will play in La Liga next season.

Newcastle United will need to pay €25 million transfer fee for striker

As reported by Super Deporte, Almeria will not let Sadiq go for a transfer fee lower than €25 million.

That is understandable, considering the form that he has been in recent times. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Sadiq has scored 41 goals and provided 19 assists in 81 appearances for Almeria.

Whether he would be able to showcase that kind of form in the Premier League is a different matter altogether. At the moment, Villarreal, who reached the Champions League semi-finals last season, seem to be very keen on the striker as well.
