Newcastle United are a team on the rise. The club appeared to be headed for relegation till the turn of the year but have been stunning since then, going on an incredible run of form which saw them finish 11th in the Premier League. They have strengthened their squad as well, having signed Matt Targett, Nick Pope and Sven Botman already. That is not expected to be the end of  their transfer business this summer though.

One of the areas that Newcastle United need to strengthen in is up front as they were not the strongest team going forward last season.

They might have the perfect opportunity to sign Barcelona’s Memphis Depay this summer though, as he does not look like a key part of Xavi’s plans.

It is believed that Barcelona are ready to let Depay leave this summer, and as tweeted out by Ekrem Konur, they will not accept offers of under €20 million for the Dutch international.

Newcastle United have a great chance to sign Depay from Barcelona this summer

Newcastle United could certainly do with a player like Depay. He was viewed as Barcelona’s marquee signing last summer, after Lionel Messi departed the club under unexpected circumstances.

He had made a bright start to life at Barcelona as well, but things took a turn after Ronald Koeman was shown the exit door and Xavi was appointed the club’s manager instead.

Now, it looks like he is no longer an undroppable part of this Barcelona team and they might be more than ready to let the Dutchman go if the right offer comes in. That presents Newcastle United with a chance to swoop in and get a deal done.

While Depay’s debut season at Barcelona might have been a mixed bag, he is a spectacular player when on top form and he has shown that for the Netherlands national team and Lyon in the past. He also has Premier League experience from his time at Manchester United. Thus, signing him would be a major coup for Newcastle United and they should definitely consider making a move.
