Newcastle United have been linked with a long list of players in recent times, with the club expected to make a splash this summer. And the Magpies seem to be well underway in that path as well, having signed Matt Targett and Nick Pope, and are on the verge of completing the long-awaited move for Sven Botman as well.

There are other areas of the pitch where they are looking to improve as well though. One of them seems to be on the wings.

Moussa Diaby of Bayer Leverkusen is rumoured to be their top target on the flanks although they have been recently linked with a move for Thorgan Hazard of Borussia Dortmund as well. But now, it seems that they hold a serious interest in another winger, in the form of Leeds United star, Raphinha.

As reported by The Northern Echo, Newcastle United have held a discussion with Leeds United officials about Raphinha but have not yet made a formal offer for the winger. The Magpies would not be willing to go anywhere near the Brazilian’s current £60 million transfer valuation, but they want remain part of the discussion, in the case that others are also unwilling to meet that figure.

Newcastle United have held a discussion over Raphinha

The Brazilian has been one of the standout stars in the Premier League over the past couple of years, who is not playing for one of the traditional big six.

Recently, he has been linked with some huge clubs like Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester United and others. It looks like Newcastle United are in that discussion as well, as a possible destination for Raphinha.

While there is no doubt that Raphinha is a brilliant player on his day, £60 million might be too steep a figure to shell out for him. It remains to be seen if he is available for a lower transfer fee in the future.
