Newcastle United are looking to make a number of additions to their squad over the coming weeks and months. The club made a splash last January and it certainly paid off, as they rose out of the relegation zone and ended up finishing 11th in the Premier League. They are not expected to stop there though, as their ultimate goals are expected to be to challenge for European qualification spots next season.

As a result, it would not be a surprise if they make some major additions this summer. A move for Sven Botman is believed to be close even though one for Hugo Ekitike has dragged on for a while, and as a result, there are serious doubts over whether the Magpies will be able to sign the Frenchman or not.

The club have been linked with several other names as well though and one of the latest one to emerge on the Newcastle United rumour mill is that of Pepe.

The Brazilian has impressed immensely for FC Porto in recent times and as reported by Correio da Manhã (via Sport Witness), Newcastle United are interested in signing Pepe and plan to make a firm proposal soon.

Pepe was a standout performer for FC Porto last season. He arrived at the Portuguese club in the summer of 2021 from Gremio.

He has mostly played as a left wing-back although he can play on both wings as well. As a result, his versatility would be an advantage to any club where he ends up. Also, just 25 years of age, one would expect the Brazilian star to get even better moving forward.

Someone like Pepe could prove to be a solid addition to this Newcastle United squad. Now, it remains to be seen if they can pull a move off.
