Newcastle United make approach for AS Roma superstar

Newcastle United have been linked with a wide variety of players in recent times. The Magpies’ squad is expected to undergo a major overhaul over the course of the summer, as they aim to move further up the Premier League table, having managed to finish 11th last season, after an incredible turnaround following the arrival of Eddie Howe as manager.

It remains to be seen what kind of players Newcastle United end up signing this summer. They have already made Matt Targett’s loan move from Aston Villa permanent, while also signing Nick Pope from Burnley, after they got relegated from the Premier League.

On the other hand, a move for Sven Botman is believed to be only a matter of time, although there are major worries about whether they will be able to complete a deal for Hugo Ekitike, as that transfer saga has dragged on for much longer than anybody could have anticipated.

Now, another big name is being linked with the Magpies as well. As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via TEAMtalk), Newcastle United have made an approach for AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo. It will be very difficult to pull off a move though as the player is believed to be reluctant to leave Italy at this stage of his career.

Not too long ago, Zaniolo was considered as the next big thing in Italian football. But, things did not turn out as one would have hoped.

Zaniolo suffered some serious injuries and ended up missing the entirety of the 2020/21 campagn.

He has returned to the pitch recently though and after a slow start, has cropped up with the big moments for AS Roma in the second half of the season, even scoring the UEFA Europa Conference League-winning goal for Jose Mourinho’s side.
