Newcastle United make contact about Chelsea player
A new striker has to be one of the first things on Newcastle United’s summer transfer window wish list. Neither Callum Wilson nor Chris Wood were successful in finding the back of the net on a consistent basis last season. And if the Magpies are to challenge the top six next season, they will need a player to score goals consistently.
It had looked like they had gotten their man in the form of Hugo Ekitike. The French striker had enjoyed a tremendous breakout season with Stade Reims and showed the potential to be one of the top forwards in Europe one day.
Rumours suggested that Newcastle United had agreed a deal with Stade Reims but since then, nothing has materialised as it looks like the player himself might be unsure about moving to St James’ Park this summer. While a move is not completely off the table yet, the Magpies must have their eyes on alternative targets as well.
As reported by The Northern Echo, Newcastle United have made a formal inquiry to Chelsea about Armando Broja as they seem to be on the lookout for alternative targets to Ekitike.
Would the Chelsea striker be a good signing for Newcastle United?
Broja might not have scored a lot of goals during his time on loan at Southampton last season, but he did show a lot of potential and looked like a player who could make a major impact in the right team and system.
He has all the attributes to be a top class striker in the future as well and as a result, if Newcastle United are able to sign the Chelsea youngster, it would be a major coup on the part of the Magpies.
It remains to be seen how things turn out. It is believed that Thomas Tuchel would want to have a look at Broja in pre-season before making a decision on his future. On the other hand, West Ham United are believed to be interested in signing him.
