Newcastle United are expected to be looking to strengthen their squad significantly over the summer. The club showed a lot of improvement last season. While they were looking like relegation contenders till January, they turned it around after the turn of the year and ended up finishing at 11th in the Premier League table. One of the most remarkable turnarounds in English football history.

They are not expected to stop there though and could be looking to challenge for a top six spot in the upcoming season.

One of the players they have been linked with for months is Sven Botman of Lille. And now, it looks like they have made a breakthrough in the chase for the Dutch centre-back.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United are now closing in on a deal for Botman and it is at the final stages. The final proposal worth €40 million with add-ons to be accepted by Lille, while contracts are being prepared.

Newcastle United are on the verge of completing a deal for the long-term target

Thus, it looks like Newcastle United are on the verge of completing a move for Botman, who has been a long-term target for the Magpies.

Botman has already proven himself as a player capable of being a regular starter in a league-winning side, having won the Ligue 1 at Lille.

As a result, it goes without saying that if Newcastle United are indeed able to sign Botman, it has the potential to be a brilliant signing for the Magpies.

Initially, it had looked like Botman was headed to AC Milan and rumours had suggested that the player himself preferred a move to the Italian giants as well. But, with the club struggling to meet Lille’s asking price for his transfer, it looks like Newcastle United have swooped in and gotten their man.
