Journalist gives huge Lucas Paqueta to Newcastle United update
Newcastle United pulled off some big moves in the previous January transfer window. One of them was the one for Bruno Guimaraes, who was brought in as one of the most expensive signings in the history of the club, from Lyon. After a slow start to life at St James’ Park, the player has definitely come into his own though and was one of the best in the team towards the end of the season.
As a result, there are hopes that he can turn out to be one of the players who Eddie Howe can build his team around for years to come.
Perhaps naturally, the Magpies have been linked with his former Lyon teammate, Lucas Paqueta, as well, who he has a great friendship with.
Rumours had suggested that Newcastle United had an interest in reuniting the two at St James’ Park, as Paqueta has been a fantastic player in recent seasons as well and could potentially be a great signing for the Magpies.
Paqueta to Newcastle United situation made clear by journalist
While the rumours have never quite gone away, it does not look like a move to the Premier League is on the cards for Paqueta though. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, journalist Jacque Talbot said about the situation involving the Brazilian midfielder and Newcastle United:
"“No. He came to Newcastle to visit on holiday and I think it has literally stemmed from that. He’s friends with Bruno Guimaraes.“I’ve been told from loads of sides – from the club side and the player side – there is nothing in Paqueta. He’s not going to go to Newcastle.”"
Thus, it looks like there is not much to the rumours linking Newcastle United with a move for Lyon midfielder in the immediate future.
It was always expected to be a difficult move to pull off as well, as rumours had suggested that Lyon were looking for a transfer fee in the region of €70 million to part ways with Paqueta. That would have shattered Newcastle United’s transfer record. A move of that magnitude would not have been wise though considering the fact that the Magpies need to strengthen in several other positions as well.
