Newcastle United are expected to be looking to strengthen in their forward areas this summer. Despite improving tremendously in the second half of the season under the management of Eddie Howe, finding the back of the net remained an area where they can make further improvements. And it looks like they have their eyes on a Portuguese star, who impressed for Benfica last season.

The player in question is Goncalo Ramos, a Portuguese player who is just 20 years of age and is coming off of a very promising campaign with Benfica.

Ramos is capable of playing as a centre-forward, a second striker and as an attacking midfielder as well, and his versatility will definitely make him attractive to many clubs.

As reported by Record (via Football FanCast), Newcastle United are one of the clubs keen on signing Ramos. But there seems to be some world class competition for his signature, as the likes of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and newly promoted Nottingham Forest also appear to hold an interest in the youngster. Jacque Talbot tweeted out:

Newcastle United will have to compete with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Nottingham Forest for Portuguese star

It is safe to say that it will not be easy for the Magpies to get a deal over the line for Ramos, who is wanted by some of the top clubs in Europe.

Benfica are believed to be looking for a transfer fee around €40 million to let the talented Portuguese star go and it remains to be seen if any of these clubs are ready to match that figure.

Ramos’ current deal with Benfica is believed to run till the summer of 2026 though and as a result, they should not be under any pressure to let him go, if they do not receive an offer that suits them.
