Newcastle United showed a lot of improvement under the management of Eddie Howe last season and ended up finishing in 11th in the Premier League table. That is exceptional for a team that was very much in the middle of a relegation battle for several months. Now though, the Magpies have to aim higher and should try to challenge the traditional big six for one of the European qualification spots.

Of course, that is easier said than done and if Newcastle United are to compete at that level on a consistent basis, they will need to sign some top players this summer.

One might be available at Chelsea in the form of Hakim Ziyech. Despite his unquestionable quality and good runs of form at times as well, the Moroccan has never quite managed to nail down a regular spot in Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI.

Some rumours have suggested that he could be on the move this summer after a couple of underwhelming seasons at Chelsea and if that is the case, Newcastle United should definitely try to bring him to St James’ Park.

On top of his game, Ziyech is an exceptional player. He was absolutely brilliant during his time at Ajax and has come up with some big goals for Chelsea as well.

The problem for him is that he has never gotten a long run of games, due to a variety of reasons. If he is given that, one suspects that he can produce big numbers in the Premier League as well.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Ziyech scored 8 goals and provided 6 assists in 44 appearances for Chelsea last season. He played 2489 minutes of football in total though. Thus, his minutes per goal contribution numbers are quite impressive.

Someone like Ziyech could thrive at Newcastle United, if given a good run of games, and if he is available this summer, the Magpies should definitely see if there is an opportunity to make it happen.
