Sven Botman is someone that Newcastle United have been linked with for months now. And not too long ago, it was looking like they were very likely to complete the deal as well. But as the transfer saga has dragged on, there are surely some doubts about whether the Dutchman will ultimately arrive at St James’ Park or not.

Botman is also wanted by AC Milan and some rumours have suggested that he prefers a move to the Italian champions and wants to play Champions League football next season, something that Newcastle United will not be able to provide him.

Thus, while Newcastle United are not completely out of the race yet, it would be wise on their part to keep their eyes open for alternative targets.

Jacque Talbot appears to believe that Benoit Badiashile of AS Monaco, who has been linked with a  move to Newcastle United in the past, could be the one that the Magpies turn towards in case their attempts to sign Botman fail. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said:

"“He’s someone they took a look at in January, and it was quite heavily reported. I think if this Botman bid fails, I think he’d be the one through the door.“He’d be the one they go for; he was heavily linked in January. He’s again, young, Ligue 1, left-sided, so he’d be the one through the door next if Botman does end up going to AC Milan or that deal collapses.”"

Could Newcastle United move for the French star if they fail to sign Botman from Lille this summer?

Badiashile has been one of the most highly-rated young defenders in Ligue 1 for a while now. Despite being just 21 years of age, the French centre-back has plenty of experience at the senior level already and has been a regular for AS Monaco for a while.

Badiashile is a physical presence at the back and has the potential to be one of the best defenders in the world one day.

Rumours have suggested that Newcastle United have already made a failed transfer bid for Badiashile in the past, as have Manchester United. Thus, it will be interesting to see if the Magpies can bring him in this time around, if their attempts to sign Botman lead nowhere.
