The change in ownership has meant that in recent times, Newcastle United have found themselves in transfer battles with some of the biggest clubs in all of Europe. And this time around, it looks like they will have to compete with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona, Inter Milan and potentially more, for the signature of a player who has impressed for Ajax in recent times.

Ajax find themselves in a very interesting situation right now, with Erik ten Hag having joined Manchester United as their new manager.

As a result, the Dutch giants might have a tough time keeping hold of some of their players. And one of them could be versatile Argentine star, Lisandro Martinez, who seems to have caught the eye of some of the biggest clubs around Europe.

Martinez is a centre-back also capable of playing at left-back and in defensive midfield if the situation calls for it. And as reported by 90min, Arsenal have a particular interest in the Argentine but the likes of Newcastle United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a close eye on the situation, while Barcelona and Inter Milan are also in the mix of things.

Martinez was a key player in Ajax’s successes last season and has already made several appearances for the Argentina national team as well.

He is just 24 years of age and would be expected to get even better with experience. Thus, it is not hard to see why some of the biggest clubs in Europe might be interested in him.

Newcastle United are believed to be in search of a centre-back this summer, having been linked heavily with Sven Botman for a while. But with that move now in doubt, it might be a good idea for the Magpies to keep an eye on alternative targets and it looks like Martinez is one of them.
