Newcastle United are interested in relegated goalkeeper
Despite the good form of Martin Dubravka between the posts since the arrival of Eddie Howe, it looks like the manager is keen to add to Newcastle United’s options at goalkeeper. As a result, the club have been linked with a long list of names over the course of the past few weeks and months and some time back, had looked to be closing in on a move for Manchester United’s Dean Henderson.
That seems to be completely off the table now though as it looks like Henderson is headed to Nottingham Forest instead.
On the other hand, the Magpies seem to have turned their attention towards an England international in the form of Nick Pope.
As reported by Sky Sports, Newcastle United are interested in signing Burnley’s Pope this summer. He is one of the players likely to leave the club following their relegation to the Championship. He appears to have an eye on a spot in the England national team squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Newcastle United linked with move for England international goalkeeper
It is not hard to see why Pope would want to leave Burnley, after they dropped down to the second division of English football. At the same time, he has been one of the most highly-rated goalkeepers in England for quite some time now, has been linked with a move to some of big six in the past and made multiple appearances for the national team.
Someone like Pope could be a great addition for the Magpies if they can pull it off. For Burnley, this could be their last chance to get a transfer fee out of his exit as well, as the goalkeeper’s current deal with the club is believed to run out in the summer of 2023.
It remains to be seen how things turn out, but this is a story Newcastle United fans should keep an eye on.
