Goalkeeper is a position that Newcastle United seem determined to strengthen at over the course of this summer transfer window. While Martin Dubravka has done a very good job between the posts, especially since the arrival of Eddie Howe as manager, it looks like the Magpies want to bring in someone who is better with the ball at his feet.

As a result, the club have been linked with several players like Dean Henderson of Manchester United, Kepa Arrizabalaga of Chelsea, Jordan Pickford of Everton, Bernd Leno of Arsenal and more.

It had looked like the club had been closing in on a move for Henderson recently but now, that seems to have failed to transpire and as a result, they are expected to move their eyes elsewhere.

And as reported by RMC Sport, Newcastle United have taken steps to recruit Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, Alphonse Areola. He spent the previous campaign on loan at West Ham United. The Hammers are also in the running for his signature though and are believed to have an option to buy as well.

Newcastle United are interested in PSG star with West Ham United also in the running

It is not hard to see why Newcastle United would be interested in Areola. On top of all his qualities, he also has Premier League experience as well and as a result, would not come with the risk that clubs have to take on players from other leagues.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle United are able to sign him or not, but at the moment, West Ham United do seem to hold a lot of the cards.

Areola is just 29 years of age and very much in the prime of his career. Other than West Ham United, he has also played Premier League football for Fulham as well.
