Sven Botman is a player who has been linked with a move to Newcastle United for months now. And as Eddie Howe is expected to look to add another centre-back to their ranks in the ongoing summer transfer window, it is no wonder that the name of the Dutch defender has cropped up once again.

Botman looks almost certain to leave Lille this summer and he does not seem to have any lack of suitors, with a number of clubs being linked with the Dutchman.

For Newcastle United, it had looked like the chance to sign Botman had passed them by, with AC Milan believed to have been closing in on a deal for the Lille star but as that transfer has stalled, it looks like the Magpies are back in the race to sign him.

Newcastle United are not expected to have many problems when it comes to agreeing a transfer fee with Lille for Botman. Rumours have suggested that the French club would be ready to part ways for a figure upwards of £30 million. The tougher task for the Magpies might be to convince the player to come to St James’ Park and there appears to be an update on that situation.

Botman’s feelings on Newcastle United move revealed

There is a mixed update for Newcastle United regarding the defender. As reported by Express, Botman is open minded to a move to Tyneside although he would like to continue playing Champions League football.

That is something that Newcastle United will not be able to offer Botman immediately, as they finished 11th in the Premier League last season.

Eventually, it would be their aim to reach that level though and a player like Botman, who has won Ligue 1 with Lille, could play a key factor in that attempt, if he does end up at St James’ Park.
