Newcastle United have been linked with a wide number of players in recent times as it looks like the club could splash out this summer, similar to what they did in January, which ended up having a huge hand in The Magpies turning their campaign around. Not only were they able to beat relegation but ended up finishing 11th in the Premier League, something that nobody could have expected at the turn of the year.

Now though, it will be about taking that next step forward and challenging for an European spot. If that is to happen though, the club must continue to improve their squad and back Eddie Howe this summer.

One of the players that they have been linked with in recent months is Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby, who has been one of the most in-form wingers in the world in recent times, and has flown a bit under the radar to be honest, considering the numbers that he has put up.

There has been a bit of confusion surrounding Newcastle United and their interest in Diaby. But according to transfer insider Dean Jones, there is definite interest from the Magpies in the Bayer Leverkusen star. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said:

"“They do definitely want him and would like to push the boat out, too. But even though they’d be willing to pay £50m for him, they just can’t make any breakthrough at the moment.”"

Newcastle United want to sign Bundesliga star but are struggling

Thus, it looks like Newcastle United are ready to shell out a transfer fee in the region of £50 million to sign Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen but are struggling to make a breakthrough at the moment.

One disadvantage that the Magpies have when compared to other clubs is the fact that they do not have European football to offer to these big name players and that could prove to be a vital factor.

It is not hard to see why Newcastle United might be interested in signing Diaby. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 17 goals and provided 14 assists in 42 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen last season.
