Newcastle United were always expected to make a splash in the summer transfer window and if the early noises are anything to go by, they have already started doing that. Rumours had already suggested that the club had managed to agree a move for Hugo Ekitike that could rise up to €46 million with add-ons and now, it looks like they have agreed another deal.

Centre-back is one position where Newcastle United are expected to be looking to strengthen in. And one player who has been linked with the club for several months now is Lille’s Sven Botman.

As reported by TUTTOmercatoWEB, Newcastle United have agreed a move for Botman with Lille after putting a transfer offer of around €41 million on the table. The defender himself is believed to not be convinced about the destination though.

Thus, it remains to be seen how things go from here. It must be pointed out that AC Milan have been heavily linked with Botman in recent times as well and it is believed that the Italian champions have even agreed personal terms with the player. But a move has not taken place yet.

Newcastle United have agreed deal with French club but player remains unconvinced

Botman has already proven himself to be a player who has the quality to be in the heart of defence of a league-winning team. Lille won the 2020/21 campaign’s Ligue 1 title ahead of Paris Saint-Germain.

That was a huge achievement without a shadow of a doubt but now, it looks like the player could be looking for a change in scenery.

Still just 22 years of age, the Dutchman has plenty of time to improve and potentially become one of the best defenders in the world in the future. Thus, it could be a major coup on the part of Newcastle United if they are able to bring him to St James’ Park. Let’s see if the Magpies are able to convince Botman about the project.
