Eddie Howe set to hold direct talks with Newcastle United target
Newcastle United have been linked with a wide variety of targets over the course of the past several weeks and months, as the Magpies are expected to strengthen significantly over the summer. The club did an incredible job of climbing out of the relegation zone and ultimately finishing 11th in the Premier League but their future targets are expected to be much higher than that.
Thus, do not be surprised to see them splash out in the summer transfer window and one player that Howe seems to have his eye on is Christian Eriksen.
Eriksen did a remarkable job during his time at Brentford. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored a goal and provided 4 assists in 11 appearances for the club. He was vey good for the Denmark national team as well.
Now though, he is a free agent having only signed a short-term deal with Brentford at the start of the year and as a result, Newcastle United have an opportunity to sign him as a free agent.
Howe is set to hold direct talks with the Newcastle United transfer target
Eriksen is one player that Newcastle United appear to be interested in this summer and as reported by NUFC blog, Jacque Talbot said about the situation:
"“Eddie Howe will meet up with Christian Eriksen next week for face-to-face talks following a preliminary discussion involving intermediaries on Monday.“Eriksen is a huge dressing room presence as well as a highly skilled player, two things that appeal to the Newcastle United boss.“We know how much onus Eddie Howe puts on persona, so it comes as know surprise to hear that there have been talks about bringing him in.“It would be a remarkable signing.”"
There is no question about Eriksen’s ability. The question had been about whether he was still capable of playing at the top level following his medical scare at EURO 2020 last year. He has shown that he can during his short yet effective spell at Brentford.
As a result, someone like Eriksen could prove to be an excellent signing for the club, especially on a free transfer. He has top level experience, having played for the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan, and should still have plenty of football left in the tank.
