The Newcastle United transfer rumour mill has been in overdrive for some time now. It is believed that the club will undergo several changes over the coming weeks and months, as they are expected to make a splash this summer. They have already shown their intent in January and are not expected to stop there.

The club splashed out around £90 million in transfer fees in January and it did have the desired impact as well as they climbed out of the relegation zone and ended up finishing at 11th in the Premier League table. That is one of the most remarkable turnarounds in the history of the English game.

While incomings are expected at Newcastle United, there are going to be some outgoings as well. And one player who has been linked with a move away from St James’ Park for some time now is Allan Saint-Maximin.

On his day, the Frenchman is the most exciting player in the team but under the management of Eddie Howe, he has barely showed that level of quality and certainly not on a consistent basis. Yet, it does not look like the manager is looking to part ways with the player. In his column in Caught Offside, Fabrizio Romano gave an update on the situation as he wrote:

"Eddie Howe is a big fan of Allan Saint-Maximin and wants him to continue as a key player for next season. So far, Tottenham have other priorities after the Ivan Perisic deal was completed. The club has always monitored Saint-Maximin, but let’s see if they will open negotiations with Newcastle."

Fabrizio has provided an update on the Newcastle United future of Saint-Maximin

It would be safe to say that in recent months, Saint-Maximin has been nowhere near his best. But we know what he is capable of on top of his game and unless an offer comes around that the Magpies simply cannot turn down, it might be a good idea to just hold onto the Frenchman.

Till now, it looks like that is the direction in which they are headed as well and Saint-Maximin is expected to stay at the club for the foreseeable future.
