Journalist provides Sven Botman to Newcastle United update
Centre-back is a position that Newcastle United appear to be interested in strengthening over the course of the summer. The club signed Dan Burn last January from Brighton & Hove Albion, and it did wonders for the Magpies’ defence. Now, it appears that Eddie Howe could look to repeat the trick and further solidify what has already become a formidable defence since the turn of the year.
Thus, Newcastle United have been linked with quite a few players capable of playing in the heart of defence but the name that they have been linked with most heavily is that of Lille’s Sven Botman.
Botman has proven himself to be an excellent defender during his time in Ligue 1, even guiding them to a league title over Paris Saint-Germain in the 2020/21 season.
Thus, it is not hard to see why Newcastle United might be interested in signing him and there is a an update on the situation from journalist Pete O’Rourke. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, he said:
"“They tried really hard in January to get him but just couldn’t get that deal done. I don’t think the interest has gone away, it’s still a position Eddie Howe wants to improve on this summer and bring in a new centre-back. So if they can land a Sven Botman who has been very high up their list of targets, it would be a great signing for Newcastle.“There’s fierce competition from the likes of Milan for the Dutchman as well, so it’s going to be a hard one to do, but Newcastle are in there and still trying to do it. They will be hoping to lure him to St James’ Park.”"
Journalist delivers update on Botman to Newcastle United situation
Botman is expected to leave Lille this summer. It is believed that AC Milan already have an agreement in place to sign the Dutch centre-back and as a result, it is safe to say that the Italian champions are the favourites at this moment.
The race to sign Botman is not over though. The ownership situation of AC Milan is still up in the air and that could open up an window of opportunity for Newcastle United to swoop in and get a deal done for him.
It remains to be seen how things turn out in the race to sign Botman over the coming weeks and months, but it looks like there is still a chance for Newcastle United to bring the Dutchman to St James’ Park.
