Newcastle United pulled off a great move in the January transfer window by signing Dan Burn. He has proven to be a huge hit at St James’ Park and played a huge part in turning the club’s defence into a formidable one, after they had leaked goals left, right and centre, in the first half of the season.

Now though, it looks like the Magpies could be looking to repeat the trick in the summer and have been linked with a series of centre-backs in recent times. It is believed that Eddie Howe wants to strengthen his defence further.

The defender who has been most heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United in recent times is Sven Botman. But there is heavy interest in the Lille star, with AC Milan believed to be leading the race to sign him. The Magpies do appear to have an alternative as well though.

As reported by talkSPORT, Manchester City’s Nathan Ake could be handed a Premier League lifeline by Howe. Newcastle United enquired about him in January but Pep Guardiola was not ready to let the defender go then. But now, it looks like he has been told that he can leave.

Howe will know Ake well from their time together at Bournemouth, and the versatile Dutch star did shine under the manager.

Ake was very highly rated and has already proven that he can perform at the Premier League level but a move to Manchester City has just never quite worked out for him.

Thus, a move away from the club could be a major boost for Ake at this point of time. On the other hand, he could be a solid addition for Newcastle United. He has solid experience at some big clubs but at the same time, he is still just 27 years of age and in the middle of his prime.
