One player whose name has been doing the rounds of the Newcastle United transfer rumour mill constantly in recent months is that of Lucas Paqueta. And it is not hard to understand why. Firstly, he has been a standout for Lyon. Secondly, he shares a great friendship with Bruno Guimaraes, who has been a major success since arriving at St James’ Park in January.

Thus, it has been rumoured that Newcastle United could be looking to reunite the two by signing Paqueta from Lyon in the summer.

That would take them to break their transfer record though, as it is believed that Lyon will look for a transfer fee around £58 million to let Paqueta go.

Thus, it remains to be seen if Newcastle United do indeed end up making a move for Paqueta in the summer. Amidst all the rumours, Jacque Talbot has made a huge claim about the entire transfer situation and it might come as a huge disappointment for a lot of the fans. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said about the links:

"“I’m not sure there’s much to the Paqueta one, I’m told.”"

It looks like Newcastle United could do with another player in the middle of the park and someone like Paqueta could be a solid addition in that respect. But his £58 million transfer fee could be steep for the Magpies when it is believed that they will have a budget in the range of £60 million to £90 million in the summer, and have a number of positions in need of strengthening.

Thus, it would be very interesting if they did end up making a move for Paqueta. Stranger things have happened in football though so never say never.

Paqueta is a very good player without any doubt. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 11 goals and provided 7 assists in 44 appearances for Lyon last season. He is also a regular in the Brazilian national team picture.
