Newcastle United have moved early and made their intentions known in the summer transfer window. The club were always expected to make a splash this time around and if early signs are anything to go by, these could be a very exciting next few months for the fans of the Magpies, who finished 11th in the Premier League and must be looking to push on for more.

It has been clear for a while that Newcastle United need a new striker, with both Callum Wilson and Chris Wood struggling to make a big impact last season.

Rumours broke out recently that the club had all but agreed a deal with Stade Reims to sign their highly-rated youngster, Hugo Ekitike, and now, that news has been confirmed.

Fabrizio Romano tweeted out that Ekitike has agreed a five year deal with Newcastle United and now, it is about discussing final details with Stade Reims before a deal is complete.

Fabrizio Romano confirms huge Newcastle United transfer news

Ekitike is coming off of a glorious breakout season with Stade Reims in Ligue 1. According to stats from Transfermarkt, in 26 appearances for the French club, he scored 11 goals and provided 4 assists.

Those are exceptional numbers for a 19-year-old and he can go on to become one of the top strikers in the game in the future.

Ekitike was believed to be on the transfer list of some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Borussia Dortmund had been touted as a possible destination. On the other hand, Manchester United had been linked with him for a while as well.

Ultimately though, it looks like his future lies at Newcastle United. Rumours have suggested that the club are ready to pay a transfer fee that could rise up to €46 million with add-ons. If the deal does indeed end up going through, it would be a huge turning point in the club’s transfer policy, as it would prove that they can compete for some of the most in-demand names in Europe with some of the biggest clubs in the world.
