Newcastle United completed one of the most amazing turnarounds in Premier League history, as they went from a team struggling in the relegation zone for the first half of the season to one who managed to finish the campaign in 11th. Thus, Eddie Howe deserves a lot of credit for the job he did after arriving as manager at St James’ Park but one suspects that this is only the beginning and the club will want to go much higher in the future.

Thus, do not be surprised to see them splash out in the summer transfer window and one position that the club appear to have their eyes on is left-back.

It had looked like Newcastle United had found themselves an excellent one in the form of Matt Targett, who had arrived on loan from Aston Villa in January but it was believed that a £15 million transfer fee would be enough to sign him. But as the club continue to be linked with one left-back after one, it does feel like they might not take that option.

As reported by The Athletic (via Manchester Evening News), the future of Oleksandr Zinchenko at Manchester City is up in the air. There are several Premier League clubs believed to be interested in the left-back, including Newcastle United, Arsenal and Everton.

Zinchenko arrived at Manchester City back in 2016 and since then, has been able to carve out an impressive career for himself. His time at the club might come to an end soon though.

Considering the amount of top level experience that he has, Zinchenko could be a solid signing for the Magpies. Of course, the race for his signature is expected to be tough.

While he has mostly played as a left-back during his time at Manchester City, Zinchenko has the ability to play at central midfield as well, and his versatility makes him an even more attractive target for clubs around the Premier League.
