Newcastle United are heading towards a very important summer transfer window for the club. The Magpies have taken huge steps in the right direction over the past several months, going from relegation battlers to a team that managed to finish 11th in the Premier League. Now, they will surely be hoping to improve further and hopefully challenge for European qualification spots come next season.

Thus, Newcastle United are expected to make a splash in the summer transfer window, especially after the success that they enjoyed after doing the same in January.

One of the best signings that the club made at the start of the year is Bruno Guimaraes, who has looked like someone that Eddie Howe can build his team around. And now, it looks like they have their eyes set on another Lyon player.

As tweeted out by Rudy Galetti, Newcastle United are preparing an offer to Lyon for Lucas Paqueta. Personal terms are under discussion and at a good stage. The situation appears to be a rapidly evolving one.

It is going to take a big offer to sign Paqueta from Lyon in the summer. Rumours have suggested that the French club rate the Brazilian midfielder at a transfer fee around £58 million, which would immediately make him the most expensive signing in Newcastle United history.

It is not hard to see why Paqueta is so highly rated though. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 11 goals and provided 7 assists in 44 appearances for Lyon across all competitions last season.

Paqueta has become a regular part of the Brazilian national team picture in recent years as well and on top of that, he is just 24 years of age and would be expected to get better moving forward, as he gets more experience under his belt.
