Newcastle United are expected to be looking to add another centre-back to their squad in the summer. The club signed Dan Burn in January and that was a move that worked wonders for them. It went a long way in solidifying things at the back, as it had been a very leaky defence for the Magpies until that point of the campaign.

The addition of Burn, along with Kieran Trippier and Matt Targett, all played a part in improving things at the back for Newcastle United, as they climbed out of the relegation zone and managed to finish 11th in the Premier League table.

The club are not expected to stop there though and appear to be headed for a big summer transfer window. And another centre-back is rumoured to be on the wish list for Eddie Howe, as he could look to repeat the trick from January.

One player that Newcastle United have been linked with recently is Tyrone Mings. And their hopes of signing him have been handed a boost recently. Aston Villa confirmed on their official website that they have agreed a deal to sign Diego Carlos from Sevilla.

The arrival of Carlos would put Mings’ future at Aston Villa in doubt. Interestingly, he is a player that Howe will know very well from their time together at Bournemouth.

Mings struggled to make his mark at Bournemouth though, struggling with fitness problems, but has looked like a player transformed at Aston Villa, even becoming an England international.

Thus, it is not hard to see why there might be interest on the part of the Magpies to sign him in the summer and reunite him with Howe.

It is believed that Aston Villa could look for a transfer fee around £35 million for Mings though, which would be a bit steep for someone who is 29 years of age. On the other hand, Newcastle United have also been linked with Sven Botman recently.
