Newcastle United pulled off a solid move in January by signing Matt Targett on loan from Aston Villa till the end of the season. Since then, he has done a wonderful job and there have been calls from the fans for him to be signed on a permanent basis. Recent signs appear to be showing us a different direction though.

The club have been linked with a number of left-backs in recent times, which has raised doubts about whether they are really looking to make Targett’s loan stay permanent.

The most high-profile of them has been Atletico Madrid’s Renan Lodi but now, it appears that another big name has been added to that quickly growing list.

As tweeted out by journalist Layth, Newcastle United are weighing up a £50 million transfer bid for Arsenal star, Kieran Tierney. The Scottish left-back is believed to be happy with Arteta’s project though.

Newcastle United linked with big move for the Arsenal star this summer

Tierney was a standout for Celtic as he came up through the ranks for the Glasgow giants and would end up moving to Arsenal in the summer of 2019 in a Scottish record £25 million transfer move.

Since then, he has proven his value to the Gunners though and over the course of that time, he has arguably been one of their best players. His displays have caught the eye, so much so that he was linked with both Real Madrid and Barcelona earlier this year.

Now, it looks like Newcastle United could try to make a transfer move for the Scottish international as well.

If the Magpies are able to sign someone with the quality of Tierney, it would be a huge boost on the part of the club and a major blow to Arsenal at the same time. Now, it remains to be seen how things turn out over the summer.
