With the Premier League season now over, eyes will start moving towards the summer transfer window. Newcastle United made a tremendous turnaround in the second half of the campaign, ultimately finishing 11th. But one would not expect them to be satisfied with that and instead, splash out this summer.

The Magpies’ next target has to be qualifying for a European competition and while Eddie Howe’s men have done very well over the past few months, the squad needs more strengthening if they are to compete with the Big Six on a consistent basis.

One player that Newcastle United have been linked with quite a bit in recent times is Leeds United’s Raphinha. The Brazilian has been one of the standout wingers in the Premier League in recent times and as a result, there is heavy interest in his signature these days. So much so that clubs like Barcelona also want to sign him.

As reported by FootballTransfers, Barcelona have had a €55 million transfer offer for Raphinha rejected by Leeds United.

Barcelona’s offer for the Newcastle United transfer target has been turned down

Raphinha has been brilliant in recent times and thus, if the Magpies are able to sign him, it would be a major coup for them.

But it looks like it will take a huge transfer fee to get any deal for the Brazilian over the line and it remains to be seen if Newcastle United are ready to shell out that kind of a figure to bring Raphinha to St James’ Park.

It is believed that he currently has a release clause around €75 million, which would have been reduced to around €25 million if Leeds United had been relegated from the Premier League. But the Peacocks managed to stay up in dramatic fashion, by winning their game on the last day of the season, while Burnley lost to drop down to the Championship.
