Considering how well Matt Targett has done for Newcastle United since arriving in the January transfer window on loan from Aston Villa, most fans would want the club to sign him on a permanent basis in the summer. Although that is not off the table, it looks like the Magpies have their eyes on other left-backs as well.

One player that they have been linked with quite a bit in recent weeks is Renan Lodi. Newcastle United have already signed one full-back from Atletico Madrid in the form of Kieran Trippier and it looks like they could be looking to reunite him with his former teammate.

Lodi is a Brazilian international and is believed to be rated at a transfer fee around £25 million, which would not be steep in the modern footballing transfer market.

And as tweeted out by journalist Andre Hernan, Lodi and Newcastle United are set to meet later this week. That is a huge transfer update as it looks like The Magpies want to strengthen the squad for next season.

Massive transfer update involving Atletico Madrid’s Lodi and Newcastle United

It is not hard to see why Newcastle United might be interested in making a move for Lodi. He is just 24 years of age and has played a decent amount of football for Atletico Madrid since joining the club in 2019. He has also made several appearances for the Brazilian national team as well.

Thus, someone like Lodi has the quality to be a very good signing for Newcastle United. But at the same time, one cannot ignore how good Targett has been since moving to St James’ Park.

He has already proven himself for Newcastle United and there would be less risk involved in a move for him then there would be for Lodi. It is also believed that he could be available for a transfer fee around £15 million.
