A new striker has to be near the top of Eddie Howe’s summer wish list as he looks to strengthen the Newcastle United squad in the summer transfer window. Callum Wilson has looked decent when he has played, finishing as the top scorer for the season with 8 goals. But the fact of the matter is that he has spent a long time out on the sidelines and there are doubts whether he is a player who can lead the line if the club challenge in a top six battle in the future.

On the other hand, Chris Wood has not been able to make much of a mark at St James’ Park since his big move from Burnley in January.

Thus, it would not come as any surprise if Newcastle United were to sign someone capable of playing up top in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The club have been linked with some of the biggest names in Europe in the form of Darwin Nunez and Victor Osimhen. At the same time though, they have also been linked with Stade Reims wonderkid, Hugo Ekitike.

Paris Saint-Germain ready to hand Newcastle United a €45 million transfer blow

Newcastle United are believed to have had a transfer bid for the French striker turned down in January. And now, as reported by Foot Mercato, PSG are ready to make a €45 million offer for Ekitike.

It looks like French giants are changing their recruitment policy a bit and will now go for younger players, who might not be the biggest names, but have a lot of room for improvement.

Ekitike has enjoyed a breakout season in Ligue 1 this season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 11 goals and provided 4 assists in 26 appearances for Stade Reims in the 2021/22 campaign. Those are exceptional numbers for someone who is 19 years of age and would only be expected to get better moving forward.

Thus, if Newcastle United miss out on Ekitike, it would represent a massive blow for the Magpies.
