Newcastle United handed Ivan Perisic transfer blow
Newcastle United have been linked with a lot of high profile names over the course of the past few months as the club are expected to make a splash in the summer transfer window. Things have not gone quite as smoothly as the fans would have hoped though. Philippe Coutinho has already joined Aston Villa, while the rumours surrounding a potential move for Paulo Dybala have faded away.
Another big name that the club have been linked with in recent times though is Ivan Perisic and his future at Inter Milan is very much up in the air.
Perisic’s current deal with the club runs out in the summer and he is yet to agree a new deal with them, even though negotiations are still believed to be open. Thus, there might be an opportunity to get a move done for Newcastle United, as he could be set to become a free agent soon. But there looks set to be heavy competition for his signature.
As reported by ESPN, Juventus are leading the race for Perisic’s signature. On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as an alternative destination, with the player open to a possible reunion with Antonio Conte. Newcastle United and Chelsea also appear to be in the running.
Newcastle United handed blow in race to sign Perisic
Many might raise their eyebrows at the fact that Perisic is 33 years of age, but he seems to be only getting better with time.
He has been one of Inter Milan’s standout players recently and played a big part in their Coppa Italia win, scoring a brace in the final against Juventus.
Thus, if Newcastle United are able to sign a player of Perisic’s experience and ability, it would be considered as a major coup for Eddie Howe’s side. But at the moment, it does feel like there are quite a few ahead of them in the race for his signature.
