Newcastle United finished the Premier League season on a high with a 2-1 away win over Burnley. It was enough for them to finish in 11th, something that nobody could have imagined when Eddie Howe arrived to save them from relegation. It resulted in The Clarets being relegated from the Premier League, after Leeds United managed to stay up by winning their game against Brentford. The Magpies had reasons to be worried as well though.
Joelinton, who has arguably been Newcastle United’s best player this season, was stretchered off early on in the game against Burnley.
The only thing to be positive about it is the fact that it came on the last day of the season and as a result, Joelinton will get time to recover from it over the summer.
There seems to be some more good news about the Brazilian though as it looks like he was in good spirits in the dressing room. As reported by Newcastle World, Howe said about the situation:
"“It didn’t look good. I could see by the way he went down, I thought ‘this could be serious’.“Apparently, it’s a deep laceration. I think the doctor, initially when he saw him, could see part of his bone, so I think it was quite deep.“We knew immediately we had to withdraw him, but he’s in good spirits in the dressing room.“He had a boot on, and said he was OK, so that’s great news.”"
Howe delivers Newcastle United update on Joelinton’s injury
Joelinton has been absolutely brilliant for Newcastle United in recent times and completely turned around his career at St James’ Park.
Since arriving at the club, he had been viewed as a transfer flop for a long time as he struggled to deliver on the expectations that had been surrounding him thanks to his big transfer. In recent times though, he has been playing spectacular football and looks like the player that the club would have hoped that they signed when they shelled out a £40 million transfer fee to bring him in from 1899 Hoffenheim.
Now, we can only hope that his injury is nothing serious and he is able to recover fully. He has become a vital player of this Newcastle United side and fans will be hoping to see him back on the pitch as soon as possible.
