Newcastle United seem to be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper this summer despite the good form that Martin Dubravka has showcased over the past several months. The club have been linked with a number of high profile names between the posts, including that of Kepa Arrizabalaga of Chelsea, Jordan Pickford of Everton, Kasper Schmeichel of Leicester City, Bernd Leno of Arsenal and several others.

Recent rumours had suggested though that they were getting close to a deal to bring Manchester United’s Dean Henderson to St James’ Park. Both a loan deal and permanent one were believed to be possible.

Henderson had struggled for playing time at Manchester United throughout the course of the season and was believed to be looking for a move away from Old Trafford in search of regular playing time.

But Eddie Howe has ruled out such rumours, making it clear that Newcastle United are not close to signing anyone at this point of time. As reported by Chronicle Live, the manager said:

"“We’re not close to signing anyone at this moment in time. That’s far from the truth.”"

Henderson is very highly rated as a goalkeeper and did a tremendous job during his loan spell at Sheffield United.

As a result, many believed that he was bound to be the next starter between the posts for Manchester United, with David de Gea struggling in recent times. He even got ahead of the Spaniard in the pecking order in the second half of the previous season but would end up losing his place this time around.

De Gea has been in inspired form since the start of the campaign even though Manchester United have struggled as a whole. As a result, Henderson has gotten barely any chances to show what he is capable of.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 3 appearances this season across all competitions. Thus, it is not hard to see why he is believed to be unhappy with his playing time and looking for a move away from the club.

Someone like Henderson has the potential to be a very good signing for Newcastle United, especially if they are able to sign him on a permanent basis. But with Manchester United believed to be rating the goalkeeper at a transfer fee around £40 million, that seems unlikely.
